How IELTS Reading practice works on LingaLive

  1. 01

    Choose a practice set

Start with one short passage and its questions, or move to a full-length mock test when you are ready.

  2. 02

    Answer under time pressure

Read the passage, answer in the exam format and submit when you finish or when the timer ends.

  3. 03

    Review every answer

See your score, an estimated band and which question types you get wrong most often.

The IELTS Reading test has three passages and 40 questions in 60 minutes. There is no extra time to copy answers, so speed and accuracy both matter. Question types include True / False / Not Given, matching headings, multiple choice, sentence completion and summary completion.

Most lost marks come from a few habits: choosing False when the answer is Not Given, running out of time on the third passage, or misspelling an answer that was correct. Practising whole passages against the clock, then checking the pattern in your mistakes, is the quickest way to improve.

A True / False / Not Given question, explained

Passage extract

Urban beekeeping has grown quickly in many cities over the past decade. Supporters say rooftop hives help pollination in city parks, although the honey produced is usually sold in small quantities to local shops.

  • Statement A: Urban beekeeping has become more common in recent years.
  • Statement B: Most city honey is exported to other countries.
  • Statement C: Rooftop hives are banned in city parks.

Answers and reasons

A is True. “Grown quickly … over the past decade” matches “more common in recent years”.

B is False. The passage says the honey is sold “to local shops”, which contradicts “exported”.

C is Not Given. The passage says hives help pollination in parks but says nothing about a ban.

Tip: True means the passage agrees, False means it contradicts, and Not Given means it does not say. If you cannot find the information at all, the answer is Not Given.
