How the AI Speaking examiner works
- 01
You speak
Answer the questions aloud in your browser, in the three-part IELTS interview format.
- 02
The AI listens and assesses
Your answer is transcribed and assessed, taking into account how long you spoke and how fast.
- 03
You get specific feedback
See criterion bands, quoted examples from your answer and a practical next step.
Practising alone is useful, but you cannot hear your own weak points. An AI examiner gives you a second opinion straight after each answer, so you can fix a pattern, such as stopping after one sentence or repeating the same word, before it becomes a habit.
The AI is held to the same four criteria as a human examiner. Short answers are flagged as limiting fluency, and an answer with no speech is not scored as if it contained one. Feedback is a practice estimate: use it to improve, then confirm your level with an official test.

What AI Speaking feedback looks like
Part 1 question
Do you prefer to study in the morning or in the evening?
A candidate answer
I like studying in the evening because it is quiet. In the morning, I am busy. So evening is better for me.
Typical feedback: Fluency is limited because the answer is very short and the ideas are not developed. Lexical Resource is basic, with simple words repeated. To raise your band, give a reason, add a short example, and link ideas with phrases such as “the main reason is” or “for instance”.

What the AI examiner marks
Every answer is assessed on the four official IELTS Speaking criteria, then combined into an estimated band.
- Fluency and Coherence
- Length of answer, hesitation, speaking rate and how clearly your ideas connect.
- Lexical Resource
- Range and precision of vocabulary, with examples quoted from your own answer.
- Grammatical Range and Accuracy
- Variety of structures and the errors that appear most often.
- Pronunciation
- Clarity of sounds, stress and intonation, so you know what to practise.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an AI for IELTS Speaking practice?
Yes. LingaLive uses an AI examiner that assesses your spoken answers against the four IELTS Speaking criteria and explains the result.
Is the AI band score the same as the real test?
No. It is an estimate to guide your practice. Real IELTS Speaking is marked by a certified human examiner.
Do I need a microphone?
Yes. You answer out loud in your browser, so allow microphone access on your phone or computer.
Can I try it for free?
You can try a free sample from this page without signing up. AI assessment of your own answers uses credits, which new accounts receive on sign-up.
What if I speak very little?
Short answers limit your Fluency and Coherence score. Aim for at least 20 seconds in Part 1 and about a minute in Part 2.
